WeeSafe Launches the first guidebook dedicated to chemical protective coveralls. The present guide lays out the professional activities where short usage protective coveralls are strongly recommended. It details the different areas of activity where chemical risk is omnipresent and the occupations involved, as well as the chemical substances encountered. This sales and technical support is a key tool for our distributors to establish a good recommendation for chemical protective clothing.

INTRODUCTION

Working in the nautical industries : construction and maintenance requires the use of many chemicals. These chemicals (solvents, paints, gelcoat, antifouling, resins …) are extensively used when stripping, painting and sanding hulls under renovation. For the operators building the boats, the risk is generated by intense dust flowing in the workshops, especially during the molding phases.

BOAT MAINTENANCE

Sanding. Chemical risks: Splashing of wood dust, plastic and fiberglass

Chemical stripping. Chemical risks: Heavy splashing of stripping solvents (methylene chloride), alkaline strippers (soda), and acid strippers (hydrochloric, sulfuric hydrofluoric, nitric, and phosphoric acid).

Aeroscrubbing. Chemical risks: Splashing of solid chemicals, such as rust, and aint / adhesive / varnish / resin residues

Maintenance and cleaning operations. Chemical risks: Handling and splashing of detergents, disinfectants, strippers, and descalers.

Hull Coating. Chemical risks: Exposure to unsaturated polyester resins – epoxy, polyurethanes, resin diluents (styrene, methyl methacrylate) – to organic solvents, paints, varnishes and adhesives.

Antifouling. Chemical risks: Splashing of biocide type chemicals.

BOAT CONSTRUCTION

Machining and sanding of materials. Chemical risks: Splashing of wood dust, plastic and fiberglass

Spray molding. Chemical risks: Splashing of low or medium pressure resin with styrene emissions.

Painting. Chemical risks: Solvent paint aerosol spraying

Manual molding. Chemical risks: Manual resin application with styrene emissions.

Mixture preparation. Chemical risks: Includes a risk of resin, catalysts and colbat salts splashing.

Cleaning tools. Chemical risks: Includes a risk when handling solvents such as acetone

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING FOR NAUTICAL INDUSTRIES

WEEBACK SUIT

Coverall combining protection and greater comfort. The covered seams protect from both aerosols (molding) and dust mists (machining). The breathable back panel releases heat accumulated in the garment.

WEEPRO SUIT

For protection during low pressure gun spray and roller applications. The selfadhesive flap provides complete protection for the most exposed body part during molding phases. Its ergonomics ensure optimal comfort during the stratification phases

INTRODUCTION

Crime scenes can expose investigators to a variety of health and safety risks. Not all risks are immediately obvious, and some may appear as the investigation unfolds. Forensics suits for collecting forensic evidence must meet several important criteria:

1/ Protect the evidence collector with a clothing adapted to the risks involved.

2/ Avoid crime scene contamination.

3/ Bring comfort to the wearer by reducing the risk of heat stress.

Our coveralls prevent cross-contamination when collecting evidence.

Protect the evidence collector with a clothing adapted to the risks involved

Crime scenes can expose forensic staff to a variety of health and safety risks. Coveralls must protect the wearer from chemical and biological hazards. The chemical hazard may happen under the form of dry particles, such as toxic powder, or under liquid form. In addition, the single-use coverall must take into account any biological risks met with on crime scenes such as splashed blood.

TYPES OF SUBSTANCES MET DURING INVESTIGATIONS

POWDERS (Illegal drugs – Explosives); LIQUIDS (solvents, detergents); PLANTS / PLANT MATERIALS (Soil, roots, seeds); MATERIALS OF BIOLOGICAL ORIGIN IN SOLID OR LIQUID FORM (Saliva – blood – hair – skin cells); CARBONIZED DEBRIS (Ashes); MICRO MATERIALS (Fragments of paint); TEXTILE FIBERS (Synthetic or natural fabrics)

Our protective clothing protects the wearer from head to toe. We have developed outfits with integrated overboots covering and protecting all parts of the body to prevent micro-organisms or any powder from passing through the seams. Our WeeCover Max 1 coverall is made with fully thermo-sealed seams. Most exposed to splashes and contaminations, the front part of the body benefits from a tight protection thanks to the self-adhesive flap over the zipper.

FORENSICS SUITS : Avoid crime scene contamination

At a crime scene, it is also important not to contaminate the investigated area. The aim of the protective coverall is to reduce the risk of the evidence collector depositing skin cells, hair or clothing fibers. The whole protective coverall provides a barrier between the wearer and the site of investigation: seams, zipper and material provide tightness to fine particles and droplets. The coverall materials used are lintfree.

Bring comfort to the wearer by reducing the risk of heat stress

The area where evidences are collected is sometimes very confined. The evidence collector must be extremely meticulous in his actions, which can sometimes create stress. Most protective coveralls are made of polyethylene, thus not breathable. Naturally, as soon as the coverall is put on, the wearer suffers from heat stress. That is why we created WeeCover Max 1, a breathable coverall in SMS material

INTRODUCTION

Wood workers may come into contact with hazardous chemicals contained in wood treatment products, paint removers, binders, adhesives, varnishes or paints. WeeSafe has designed a complete range of coveralls against projections of hazardous dust, or splashing of liquid impregnation products for the wood industries.

MACHINING

Sawing and particularly sanding operations generate a large amount of very fine dust. Wood dust is harmful by skin contact. Their dangerousness level depends on the varieties of wood species (hardwoods, conifers, exotic woods). In addition, treated wood contains chemicals such as formaldehyde.

ASSEMBLING, FINISHING AND TREATING WOOD IN THE WOOD INDUSTRIES

Preparing products: Handling of chemical and impregnation products

Applying products with a brush and a spray: Applying adhesives, paints, varnishes, paint removers, stains composed of: epoxy resins, acetone, rosin, aminoplast resin, isocyanate formaldehyde, dichloromethane.

Applying products by dipping or autoclaving: autoclaving Enclosures opening and lumber outfeeding during automated treatments.

Applying a preventive or curative wood treatment with a brush: Main chemicals used: Solvents (whitespirit, xylenes), insecticides, fungicides, creosotes.
